Welcome to my blog!

Hello world – what a way to start the first blog post, right? For a few years now, I have been fascinated with Animation Mentor. About two years into my undergraduate degree, I learned about AM and all that it had to offer. My initial reaction was like many others in the Animation world: wow, this school is perhaps on the best in its class. I remember constantly checking the website for updates and watching the student showcases to see what amazing animation was being produced by their students. I told myself that once I finished my bachelor degree, I would apply to the school. And sure enough, on May 29, 2012, I did just that. I remember checking my email at least four to five times a day, waiting for the coveted acceptance letter. After about a week of constant refreshing, I told myself that I needed to cool it with the refresh button. On June 7, 2012, after several refreshes that day, I didn’t think anything would show up in my inbox. Sure enough, at 7:30PM EST, the acceptance letter was there! I couldn’t have been more excited! It seemed so surreal – almost like I didn’t believe that it could be possible. What a way to start the summer!
With just 8 days to go until the fall term of Animation Mentor starts, I am finding it difficult to contain my excitement. The countdown started about 45 days out (insane, I know) and my excitement grows with each passing day. That’s why I started this blog. I wanted to find a way to give back to the community and put some of my enthusiasm into writing for others to see (and hopefully enjoy/learn). Hopefully this blog will help prospective students, up-and-coming animators, professionals, and anyone in between. With that being said, I will be using this blog to post sketches, works in progress, progress reels, thoughts about the school, and anything else animation related. So sit back and enjoy!
My Mentor is...
One last thought. My mentor this term is Don Kim. He sounds like an amazing individual. He currently works at Nelvana Limited and has had many roles in animation including character animator, animation supervisor, and assistant director. He has worked on Robots and Return to Never Land, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, and many more! I can’t wait to sit in on his Q&A’s and listen to his experiences in the animation industry, as well as soak up all of his knowledge. It is such a humbling experience to have a professional animator critique my work and provide feedback on how to improve it.
Feel free to comment, critique my work, or stop by to say hello. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Hopefully I can help you out in one way or another. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me!
